Cultivate Thriving as a Work-From-Home, Homeschooling Mom
Cultivate: to nurture or help grow.
Whether intentional or not, every choice, action, and input in our daily lives shape our harvest.
A few years ago, I dreamed of a life where I could stay home with my kids, homeschool, and use my unique gifts to contribute to my family. The vision felt out of reach, one that many people (myself included) doubted could work. But I believed it was a God-sized dream worth pursuing.
If you’re dreaming of a similar, you’re not alone. Here’s the good news: it is possible. You can step into a career you love, contributing to your home, while investing in the people that matter most — your babies.
To help you on your journey, here are three essentials you can start cultivating today: discipline, delight, and dependence.
1. Pursue Discipline
Discipline isn’t a buzzkill—it’s your secret weapon.
As a homeschooling, work-from-home mom, discipline allows you to balance the many roles you juggle.
Start today by cultivating healthy habits:
In your faith: Cultivate a deep, disciplined walk with Jesus. Start your day with a Kingdom mindset.
In your health: Fuel your body with nutritious meals, drink water (not just coffee), and prioritize real movement.
In your home: Create rhythms for cleaning and meal prep that reduce chaos and make space for connection.
In homeschooling: Establish routines that allow your kids to thrive academically while giving you the margin to work.
Discipline creates clean, organized rhythms for you to thrive at home and work. If you want to cultivate something beautiful, discipline must be a regular part of your life.
2. Delight in the Beautiful
The everyday grind can leave you feeling stretched, overwhelmed, and…let’s be honest, touched out. Delight is vital. Taking time to savor the beauty in your life will guard your heart against bitterness.
Here are some ways to practice delight:
In the Lord: Pause to reflect on His goodness. Keep a gratitude journal, or simply thank Him for the little moments in your day. Include your children in these moments.
In your family’s season: This moment with your kids—messy and loud as it may be—is fleeting. Embrace it. Take two minutes at the kitchen table to remember every giggle and freckle.
In your work: Celebrate your wins! Whether it’s landing a new client or finishing a project, brew a fresh cup of coffee (or tea) to celebrate the joys. Include your children. Make it a family event.
In the small things: A sunrise, a shared laugh during homeschool, or the aroma of your morning coffee—these simple joys are worth savoring.
Delight takes intentionality, but it will transform how you see your days.
3. Depend on God
Say it with me: “The purposes of the Lord prevail.”
No matter how much we plan, work, or strive, the ultimate growth belongs to God. Learning dependence is a humbling but beautiful part of this journey.
Depend on God’s character: When things feel stuck, dig deeper into His promises. Trust His timing, even when it doesn’t align with yours.
Depend on others: You weren’t meant to do this alone! Build a community of trusted friends who can support you and your family. Whether it’s a fellow homeschooling mom who “gets it” or a friend who can watch your kids for an hour, community makes the journey lighter.
Dependence reminds us that our strength comes from surrendering control—not holding onto it tightly.
Your Next Step
You’re already cultivating something beautiful in your home. By pursuing discipline, delight, and dependence, you’re not just surviving—you’re creating a thriving environment for both homeschooling and work.
